Paper Abstract:      As a result of the present research work, strategies for successful e-commerce marketplaces are developed. As the meaning of success is different for each B2B-Marketplace, the marketplaces’ business goals and the assumptions about possible relations between goals and strategies are identified. The degree of the goals’ attainment is an important factor for choosing a successful strategy. The dependencies between goals, the chosen strategy and the degree of the goal’s realization can be drawn and explained as a hierarchy. The conclusions of this are recommendations about the failure of virtual B2B-Marketplaces in general and actions to be taken to prevent this or to reorganize the business.
