Paper Abstract:      Science on the web is a trend and information is global economy. XML can be a powerful means in data storage and data descriptors. A question raised is how to deal with original scientific data types properly in XML meta-language, as scientific data types are often complex. Existing Internet technology (e.g. HTML) is insufficient to deal with this issue. XML Schema has its advantages to be adopted to deal with complex scientific data types. This paper reports an investigation of deploying XML Schema in scientific databases, with particular attention to establishing a complete set of modes including XML Schema associated with document structure. The data were from a specific sample obtained from a published scientific paper [6]. The advantages of applying XML Schema in scientific databases have been demonstrated. Storing original and multiple scientific data types is achieved by using this technology. It further concluded that this methodology could be expanded to apply to a wide range of scientific data bank with more complex data types and data structures.
