Paper Abstract:      To further incorporate the Web as a life-style, it is important to engage naïve users in the process of creating Web services. Even though the Web service model offers such opportunity, few, if any, of the Web services research activities are directed towards engaging naïve users in building and deploying Web services. Today’s naïve users can customize their Web pages by reusing and combining different HTML and scripting language components. The future Web components will be Web services and future naïve users should be able to customize their own Web services by combining and reusing these existing components. This paper discusses a framework and a platform that allows the derivation of a line of compelling mobility Web services. Collaborative mobile virtual communities, where mobile users share information and increase their awareness, identify this line of Web services. Through our platform, a naïve user can deploy a new Web service without any development efforts. The platform utilizes a one-dimensional Web service reuse, one in which a Web service is cloned from an existing template service. Our framework exploits the observation that virtual communities can be built using the producer/consumer coordination model. Our experience with a prototype of the platform is also discussed.
