Paper Abstract:      Software systems based on the Web Services Framework are examples of service-oriented architectures. The ubiquity of the Web will make this framework an important platform for future software systems. We investigate a re-engineering approach to enable the migration of existing systems to the new platform. Capturing and transforming the static and dynamic aspects of the system architecture are the central activities, which is supported by a layered architecture model and a calculus focusing on service processes in the architecture. Architectural and process patterns provide central elements of the re-engineering framework. We will present an architectural transformation calculus that forms the core of such an approach.
