Paper Abstract:      The number of services using the Internet - including electronic financial transaction, e-Government and cyber training services - is increasing so rapidly as to be practically innumerable, owing to the wide diffusion of the Internet and the evolution of the usage environment. However, the diffusion and popularization of the Internet has also led to dysfunctions such as privacy infringement resulting from online identity theft, deception, and the misuse and abuse of personal information. It is becoming increasingly evident that these damages are likely to become more serious as our daily life becomes more dependent on the Internet and as the Internet service environment evolves towards a more advanced stage. To cope with these challenges, the identity management system is being actively studied and rapidly standardized to ensure more secure and convenient management of individual ID information. This paper defines the generic user-centric IDMS, and sets the security goal of implementing the IDMS safely, and presents the security requirements of each component object including the user, identity service provider, and relying party
