Paper Abstract:      This paper describes a university’s experience employing audience response systems (clickers) and interactive podcasting to facilitate students’ acquisition of advanced skills in reasoning and reflective learning. Innovative in-class and online instructional designs that employ multimedia (images, graphics, video, audio prompts) are enabled using clicker and podcasting technologies to realize benefits in learning outcomes that go beyond merely increasing participation in class and after class. The instructional designs embed assessment and feedback within instruction, create collaborative communities of learners, and amplify instruction through engaging students to interact with both content and process knowledge. Operational aspects of the university’s experience in initiating and refining use of clicker systems is described, and data are presented from descriptive research exploring students’ satisfaction with use of clickers.
