Paper Abstract:      M-learning (and pervasive learning in general) adds some important dimensions to e-learning such as the anytime, anywhere space-temporal dimension. These new dimensions extend e-learning not just to the presentation of information on mobile devices but to a new way of improving the learning experience. M-learning provides an “always on” user-context enhanced learning process. As Siobhan Thomas [1] states, m-learning (or pervasive learning in general) leverages four components in the learning environment: community driven learning, learning autonomy from the student point of view, location independency and context driven learning. This is especially true if m-learning makes use of pull-push technologies rather than pull only technologies. This paper focuses on a Web Service architecture that we have designed in order to provide mobile devices with push capabilities adapted to m-learning. This architecture has shown several advantages in some situations such as in context driven learning in which “intelligent” devices located near the user are able to initiate a learning dialog with the user. The paper also describes our implementation of this architecture in MIDP2.0.
