Paper Abstract:      Nowadays, large amounts of television programs and motion pictures are made available by a variety of broadband video services (e.g. IPTV, Tv on Web) that allow the user to display video content in an interactive environment. Consequently it is raising a new generation of media born at the convergence between television and Web environment. The design of the Tv on Web as well as the IPTV should fulfill the need of an interactive television viewer that differs from the traditional web surfer because of his/her entertainment needs. Thus there is a need to define new discovery concepts. In this paper we propose a new concept that applies a parasocial navigation to the movie discovery in a VoD catalog. We claim that the user's experience could be improved using the celebrities' images (movie still) as visual and anthropomorphic affordance to guide the movie lover in the content discovery. As a first evaluation of our concept we compared the efficacy and the likeability of a visual navigation (that uses movie stills to represent actors and movies) with a textual navigation. The result of this user study suggests that the visual navigation is more enjoyable during the discovery process.
