Paper Abstract:      The Internet has a great influence on the tourism industry. Nowadays, people do not only use the web for information purposes but also for booking services. Due to the success of Web 2.0 applications such as Flickr and MySpace, users expect more of a website than just information and rudimentary interaction or transaction possibilities. This implicates that tourism websites must take concepts such as user-generated content, folksonomies and dynamic packaging into account if they are to be competitive. This development does not only affect web designers and software engineers; it also poses new challenges for the evaluation of such eTourism services. This paper illustrates the challenges facing service providers and tourism organizations. With respect to these challenges, a framework for evaluating tourism websites is presented. Furthermore, the results of a study which was conducted using this evaluation framework are discussed. This is followed by a description of some innovative approaches towards eTourism. The paper closes with a short forecast on future directives.
