Paper Abstract:      Knowledge engineering, data mining, artificial intelligence, and other similar technologies are popularly used to gather and manipulate data related to social sciences to be later applied in different settings. Computational cultural dynamics (CCD) in general is a field that involves both social factors and computer technology. Coalition formation in particular, can be regarded as an approach within CCD that focuses on group formation strategies. The main motivation to perform coalition formation is that a specified goal is better accomplished by a group rather than by an individual. Current coalition formation methods however have limitations in view that the chain of knowledge that is created and the role of cohesion are often overlooked during the coalition formation process. This paper aims to design a knowledge-based CCD approach with the goal of forming a collaborative team. For this purpose, semantic web is chosen to facilitate the representation of knowledge while social network analysis (SNA) is carried out to study the social factors. A knowledgebased CCD framework is presented, showing the components and functionalities that have been laid out to help generate an optimum coalition.
