Paper Abstract:      This article presents a mechanism for channel allocation in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs). The proposed mechanism uses a distributed approach to access dynamically the IEEE 802.11p spectrum. Our main contribution is to propose the node behavior to guide the channel allocation process in order to respond quickly to change in the network topology. In our work, the node behavior is represented by the association of parameters as mobility, traffic history, and node degree. Our performance evaluation shows that using the node behavior as a decision criterion leads to better results when compared with a simple channel and random allocation.
