Paper Abstract:      Many modern Web applications are based on relational database technologies, on data-bound widgets (tables, trees, lists, …) and on a three level architecture which defines a clear separation among the data tier, the business-rules and the presentation layer. In the paper we argue that the extension to 3D worlds of the same approach, i.e. the semi-procedural generation of Web3D worlds starting from relational data structures, can be very relevant to many web developers and customers interested in Web3D worlds. The focus of the paper is on outlining the main guidelines and a workflow to build such a type of 3D Web sites. The approach we propose, called RVR (Relational to Virtual Reality mapping), is based on a combination of open tools and platform-independent 3D technologies.
