Paper Abstract:
|
This paper presents a method based on texture segmentation to measure the synaptic connectivity of in vitro culture of neurons using Multi-Electrode Array (MEA). We apply Gabor filters inspired by the theory of multi-channel filtering. The images and electrophysiological data used belong to hippocampal neurons of 18 days old Wistar rat Embryos registered at Genoa University. The results showed the regions of higher density of neurons containing the best candidates of connections between MEA Electrodes during the entire lifetime of the culture. The Partial Directed Coherence (PDC) approach was used to obtain the causal relations between electrodes on electrophysiological signals measured in the experiment. The causal relations obtained (connectivity) were compared with the candidate synaptic sites obtained by the Gabor filters and synaptic connection scenario method. The analysis allowed us to validate the proposed texture segmentation method, matching the higher density of neurons with the connectivity obtained by PDC up to 84.2%. |
