Paper Abstract:      General purpose mobile phones and modern web technologies enable the development of cost-effective solutions for screening and monitoring of diseases. Such solutions may be used independently by individuals at home or at the clinic under the supervision of healthcare professionals. In this paper we present a service architecture for a gastric cancer screening system, including the related software components and their interfaces. The architecture has been designed to support the whole screening process involving both patients and clinicians. In the operational phase the screening system needs to exchange information with Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and Personal Health Records (PHR) in order to facilitate proper documentation of care, and access to the monitoring and screening data by all care process participants. We estimate the new HL7/FHIR draft standard to be well-suited for achieving the required interoperability. A proof-of-concept of the screening system including three components (sensor firmware, mobile application and server) is being implemented in the context of the SNIFFPHONE project.
