Paper Abstract:      The aim of this study was to investigate the usability factors of online course registration systems. Two pattern systems from universities of Austria were subject of investigation. Their user interfaces were analysed with respect to layout, navigation menu, colors and structure of the course listings. According to the results of a usability evaluation performed by means of a questionnaire based on ISONORM 9241/10, the systems differ in self-descriptiveness and conformity with user expectations. The study showed how interface design of course registration systems influences the usersÂ’ experience and that usability evaluation can provide designers with useful hints for improvement.
