Paper Abstract:      The spurt in the growth of knowledge economy or e- economy in the last two decades have enforced the developing nations including India to concentrate more on the human resource development. As these countries have skipped the agricultural and industrial revolution, they worked hard to catch up with the IT revolution by building their manpower and network infrastructure.. Though India has a large talent pool with 1.67 million engineering and 1.54 millions of nonengineering graduates passing out of India’s educational institutions annually, there remains a shortage of skilled labour force. It is also estimated that the demand for IT trained manpower in India will grow up to 370,000 in the year 2008 (The Asia week May 18, 2001). The question here is how these skill shortages are to be managed and what is the share of women in the manpower development process in the Indian sub-continent. This implies that in order to achieve genderdemocracy in the e-society, equitable participation of the gender groups in IT education and IT employment is considered as an essential input factor.
