Paper Abstract:      Navigating websites with mobile devices, such as a mobile phone, is cumbersome as a user's ability to access and process available information is easily impeded. Websites on mobile devices are not designed to provide navigation that is easy to follow, consistent and intuitive, therefore users tend to not use mobile devices for internet browsing purposes. This paper investigates the use of adaptive navigational support techniques to remedy the problem. Several of the most commonly used adaptive techniques are investigated with respect to their suitability in improving access to relevant information. A candidate solution has been developed and evaluated with a group of students on a college web site and found to be successful when compared with an equivalent non-adaptive website. The results show a marked improvement in the number of steps that are required to access any given piece of content and user feedback confirmed a user preference of an adaptive approach over a standard non-adaptive one.
