Paper Abstract:      The successful integration of computers (and IT in general) in educational environments, depends considerably on the attitudes that teachers and students display towards the computer. Computer attitudes scales that are already in use primarily target generic computer users. Thus they fail to capture attitudes for specific user groups that are engaged in intensive computer use and display special links to the attitude object. The main objective of this work is the development of a Greek computer attitude scale, which is targeted to computer science freshmen (Computer attitude Scale for computer science Freshmen - CASF), and to populations with similar characteristics regarding computer use. We pursue a scale that is capable of recognising problematic students’ perceptions. Additionally, the scale can be utilized as a tool in the design of productive pedagogic practices, which occur during the early stages of study. We present the development of the scale and two surveys conducted in a computer science department that make use of it.
