Paper Abstract:      This paper describes an end-to-end, open-source telecare system for residential environments based on health informatics standards. The system design proposes a flexible and modular solution to support telemedicine and telecare services for patients at home. The platform is based on the open OSGi specification for developing middleware and the telemedicine service is based on the standards HL7 and ISO/IEEE 1073 to communicate the medical information between patient residential gateway and an electronic healthcare record (EHR) server. It includes a medical appointment scheduling functionality. The system has been tested in a laboratory environment with some medical devices like a personal scale and a blood pressure monitor.
