Paper Abstract:      This paper describes the conception, development and testing of a screen reader solution that, besides assisting visually impaired users in their interactions with computers, also helps illiterate and semi-literate users in a similar context. To achieve this, the solution offers new interaction modes and novel functionalities aimed at helping low-literacy users to deal with texts in computational interfaces and on the Internet. By doing so, these users are expected to have new opportunities to develop latent or inactive reading skills and to enrich their vocabulary, while being digitally included.
