Paper Abstract:      The artefacts commonly used with today’s television systems do not guarantee that those devices are adequate to mediate the use of Interactive Digital Television (iDTV) and its new types of applications. This is especially true in the context of developing countries where iDTV is a promise to cope with the digital divide. This article reviews the state of the art of physical artefacts of interaction with iDTV and discusses these artefacts from a Human-Computer Interaction perspective. In addition it presents a gesture based interaction model for iDTV to inform the design of a new interaction language based on gesture and physical artefacts of interaction with iDTV for future works.
