Paper Abstract:      Medicine is shaped not only by general theoretical knowledge but also by the experiential knowledge gained through its practice. This paper presents a web-based medical education tool, DrBlog , that aims to amplify the sharing of such valuable experiential knowledge in a case-based collaborative learning environment. The design of its mechanisms of knowledge acquisition, processing and storage, appraisal, and access are discussed to show their value in building this knowledge repository and skills-enhancing tool. This paper further describes a two-step evaluation of the system consisting of a pre-implementation focused group discussion and the description and interpretation of initial member activity. Its potentials and weaknesses are then assessed to draw conclusions as to the value of such a learning environment and as to what future directions development in DrBlog should take.
