Paper Abstract:      A typical characteristic of spatial problem-solving is the multi-disciplinarity, i.e. different actors from various sectors have to be involved in decision making processes. To satisfy as many actors as possible it is necessary, to consider all relevant fields, and contexts. This can be a problem due to the complexity of a project, especially if the goal of a project is ill defined or broadly scoped. The actors, however, have different goals, perceptions and ideas of how a place, a landscape, a village or city should develop in the future. They see problems necessarily within their specific context. The idea of a holistic approach to decision making is to consider possibly all relevant contexts, in which a spatial problem is embedded. Ignoring specific contextual information can lead to bad and unsustainable decisions. This problem is not new, but this paper does not argue from a perspective of human communication. It raises the question, whether applications can support a holistic approach in spatial decision making through improved context integration.
