Paper Abstract:      In our ever accelerating world more and more data needs to be captured and processed. Understanding how data is to be interpreted is often based on the environmental state or context, i.e. position of the receiver, time, weather or even navigation data and traffic conditions. Today’s smartphones’ processing capacity is still constrained according to the limited power available, but is already adequate to allow them to be aware of their context and make intelligent decisions based on it. We have designed a semantic platform for mobile devices that is able to gather data from several sources and publish enriched information to target applications. An application-specific but extensible ontology is built around the source data types and information enriching is based on continuous inference. We have implemented our platform on Android OS. For demonstrating purposes we have added three use cases that interface with a navigation application: an accident detector that is able to call help; an application warning truck drivers if they are about to violate some dynamic traffic rule; and a meeting manager that detects being late from the next meeting and cancels the meeting when the driver navigates to a different target.
